Auckland politician Warren Flaunty has been ordered to pay $20,000 in reparation and has been disqualified from driving over the death of a motorcyclist.
But he failed to escape from a conviction.
Flaunty, a pharmacist, Waitemata District Health Board member, Henderson-Massey Local Board member and former chairman of the Waitakere Licensing Trust, pleaded guilty to careless driving causing death in October 2011.
